This is either a feature request or a support request.

It would be great to have on-demand index support. AFAIK data is fully indexed 
when it is initially saved, however in my own case, I need it to only index the 
data when it's been edited.

We have a site with user generated content and the search index should only 
happen once an administrator has approved uploaded content.  We've noticed that 
the search_index table is getting hit with a lot of uneccessary data.
