Create API example for integration with LDAP #196

LDAP integration for company / university integration would be nice. It
would allow a single sign-in environment. The only competitor for AD / LDAP
integration is dimdim as far as I know.

Hi,

Perhaps you can take a look at bbb-xml-api.pdf on the downloads section and
provide
idea how that fits into the API. Can you provide ideas/pointers on how we can
include
that in the API?

Thanks.

Please also specify what you want to be able to sign in to with LDAP. Is it to
an
actual conference, or to the conference scheduling application?

I think both...

Admins exist on ldap directory service...
And users (students) on a university have user accounts on ldap too , since
they are
already registered and have access to physical resources (linux / WinNT, ...)
so for
bbb be used on a university and like e-learning stuff / conferencing I think
maybe
access to conference should be validated against ldap.

BOTH!

I think this would be beneficial in the corporate environment as well, having
to
manage multiple databases of users is a pain and cumbersome, and if BBB could
communicate to our Active Directory server via LDAP for authentication/user
management that would be great. I have used other open source projects that
have
this type of integration that you may want to look into, for example DimDim has
already been mentioned, but we use OpenUpload
(http://openupload.sourceforge.net/) to
transfer files larger than our e-mail limit, and it has LDAP integration for
authentication/group management. Of course, it's using php for it's framework,
so
not sure if that makes a huge difference or not.

Count me in. I used OpenFire for IM service. It's easier to provide service to
AD's
users vie LDAP. Thanks,

LDAP is a big one for us to. SSO would be a nice add on as well

This would be a good project to create some API examples of using the
BigBlueButton API + LDAP database
