It's possible to customise it via custom textures, there's also a full texture pack you can find online for Trilogy that adds PC button prompts and a way smaller crosshair. You can modify the one the pack comes with in case you don't like it, you just need a picture editor like Photoshop or even Paint.NET (which is free if you don't already have it)
I've used this method to customise the GameCube versions' crosshair and it works perfectly
Thank you for the reply, I attempted going down that route with the Wii version but I was unsuccessful, could you elaborate further?
Here's what I tried:

load/textures/%GAME_ID%/
folderNow, with this, the custom texture does load, I notice the crosshair is modified, but no matter what shape I try to draw that file, the green outline of the crosshair is still just as large as it always was.
Is there a file you could share that would service as an example of how to successfully implement a smaller crosshair?
Whoops, okay I looked into that HD Texture pack and it has a folder specifically for a smaller crosshair. There are three textures that make up the crosshair now I see, copied that over and loaded them up - problem solved!
It would still be nice to change the opacity however, but either way - thank you very much for your help, leaving a link to the texture pack and closing this request.

It would be a huge quality of life improvement if the crosshair in the Wii version could be customizeable (or outright disabled).
Playing the game with mouselook is amazing however the crosshair was obviously sized for viewing on a television display far from the player, whereas on PC games with mouse and keyboard, the crosshair is distracting large.
It would greatly improve the experience if there was an option to change the crosshair shape (to a small dot), change it's opacity,, or even remove it entirely. for a more immersive experience (like the Gamecube version).
