Bluebird has two dependencies you have to install
apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine gtk2-engines-pixbuf
As this issue has not been updated for four years, I'm inclined to assume for now that the missing dependencies were the problem, and close this issue. Please let us know if installing the gtk2 dependencies doesn't fix the problem or if new issues with the theme arise.
I am using Bluebird with XFCE on Debian Wheezy. When I execute a GTK application, I get white text on gray background, which is really hard to read. Here is an example screenshot of the GTK front-end of the UFW firewall:
Furthermore, in Terminal I get the following warning messages:
I don't believe that's an GTK, XFCE or Debian issue. So far I have encountered similar white-on-gray appearance when using GTK applications with Bluebird, while themes like Adwaita and Clearlooks seems to render in this aspect just fine.
As a side note, similar white-on-grey behavior I have observed when using your Greybird theme as well.
