I compiled easycap+tool from git and got device 'working' (video flickers very
much, no audio).
Device/chipset is this one: SmiUsbGrabber3F/xp/SmiUsbGrabber3F.sys

After 10...60 seconds, video stops with "Exiting... (End of file)"
And next run gives:
USB device 1c88:003c was not found.
USB device 1c88:003e was not found.
USB device 1c88:003f was not found.
Has device initialization been performed?

lsusb doesn't show it anymore.

dmesg shows:
[  178.227920] ehci_hcd 0000:00:13.2: force halt; handshake f800c014 00004000
00004000 -> -110
[  178.227929] ehci_hcd 0000:00:13.2: HC died; cleaning up
[  178.228228] usb 1-4: USB disconnect, device number 2

I'm adding to this thread, because it looks like a problem with the firmware.

I was trying to start my DVR on Raspberry Pi (Raspbian Wheezy).
$uname -a
Linux raspberrypi 3.2.27+ #160 PREEMPT Mon Sep 17 23:18:42 BST 2012 armv6l
GNU/Linux

$ lsusb
...
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 1c88:0007 Somagic, Inc. SMI Grabber (EasyCAP DC60+
clone) (no firmware) [SMI-2021CBE]
...

All looked perfectly correct, the compilations passed ok, until I tried to
extract the DVR firmware.
$ sudo somagic-extract-firmware SmiUsbGrabber3F.sys
Somagic firmware was not found in driver file.

I am also trying to get this model running on my model A RPi.

I tried to install all the prerequisites but it would not install wine and I
ran out of disk space installing the others (4gig, expanded Raspbian image).

I couldn't even get it to compile. I'd be really grateful if any of you could
give me some hints as I'm not very experienced with linux.

Can you split these to separate bugs? My problem on the opening post and on the
topic might relate firmware, but there was no issue on cropping firmware or
compiling code. I got it working, but capturing will die after (max) 60 seconds
every time.
