maintaining compliance with gentoo line - catalyst #239

i would like to ask about the possibility of rethinking a modernization of the 
pentoo building system and bring it to the convention of releng. i am in favor 
of maintaining the compatibility with the infrastructure of gentoo as much as 
possible; as an overlay we should not, in my opinion, differ too much from the 
basic line, i feel that in this way we can give something back to gentoo and 
combine our efforts to maintain and develop these outstanding projects,

I am on the catalyst and releng teams.  when build issues affect gentoo they 
are reported or fixed.  we are a good downstream and integration with gentoo is 
as tight as politically possible.
