Task1

I prefer to stay with a family already living in the country. Firstly, the family can help know the country well. For example, they can tell you what's the nearest stores and restaurants. They can even help you something about your study since they know the country well. Secondly, the family can give you help if there are some accidental things. For example, one day you feel uncomfortable and fell down at your room. If your live alone, no one can help you. However, if you live in a family, some of the people may stay at home, so they can find you and send you to the hospital.

Task4

The paradox of technology means that although many people think technology makes our life better, sometimes it may let us have some problems. The professor illustrates the idea by bringing up some examples: the first one is about electronic devices. Something like DVD and TV make our life better. However, if you want to control both of them, you need to use a universal machine. And you need to spend a lot of time watching instructions and learning how to use the machine well! But in that case, your life becomes harder. The second one is cell phone. Now cell phones are getting smaller and smaller, so it's portable for us to bring them. However, because the keys can be tiny as the phones get smaller, you may have problems using your finger to control something. For example, you can't type number easily.

I prefer to live on their own or with few of my friends. Firstly, it can develop us independence ability, we must do many things by ourselves, instead of helping by other. For example, if you are alone, you must clean your house and cook by yourselves. Secondly, it better for us to study, if you study alone or with your friends, you can have a quite environment or can discuss with your friend. By contrast, if you live with family, they will influence you and just ask your do many things.

Task2

The student proposed to purchased a new sound system for the Old Lincoln Hall auditorium. First, new system can attract more students. Second, it can help to sale tickets. The man disagrees with this advice. First, he thinks it just waste money, the building must be 200 years, it's used be college gym, the counties are terrible, so the environment is not good at there. Second, watch movies may not students first choice, because they have other things to do, such us some social activities. So the man disagrees with this suggestion.

Task4

Although, technology can make people's life easier, it also make people's life difficult. First, simplify life actually has the opposite effect. For example, the electronic device, there is no need for you to get up from your set to change the TV channel or change the volume. But you program yourself, you should spend hours reading a manual, figuring out the directions. Also you should remember buttons, so it's also make life complicated. Another example is mobile phone and cell phones, they are being made smaller and smaller now, although it's convenient for people to take, it's easily for people type number wrong, and also difficult for your finger to control something.

Task 1

I think that staying alone is a better choice for various of reasons. First, I think that staying alone can have more privacy since you are the only one living under that roof, and oppositely, living with other people means that you won't have that much privacy. Second, I think that living alone can help us practise to be independent and taking more responsibility of the house, for example, you have to do more housework in order to keep the house organized and cleaned. But if you are living in other's home you might have to do a little housework, but the original family will do most of them since it is their house, and they are responsible for it.

Task 4

The paradox of technology are those technologies that are supposed to make life easier and yet they make our life more complex. There are two examples given in the lecture, the first one is the controllers of those home use electronic devises. There was one controller for each of the devises, and it seems to be too complicated to have that many controllers, so then here comes the invention of universal controllers. These universal controllers can control all of the devises, so that means you only have to use one controller for all of the devises. But the problem is that you have to program the controllers in order to use them to control other devises and while you are programming them you need to look at the operating manual and you will surely encounter a lot of problems, so eventually, it made your life harder. As the technology become more and more advanced, our mobile phones tend to be smaller and smaller, and this is also an example of the paradox of technology. Smaller and smaller phone is supposed to be more and more easy to carry around and eventually made our life easier. However, smaller phone means smaller buttons on the phones and those small buttons on the phone often made us to click the wrong buttons, for example dialing the wrong numbers. And this is obviously making our life harder.

Task1

I think it's better to study abroad to choose to live on our own or with few of friends. Because our friends is always in the similar age as us, they won't take care of us as our parents. In this way people can develop our independent ability and to improve our self-living skills. And also I think asking friends for help is better to be understood and helped than parents. Parents always has gap with us and if you meet some problem but they are not by your side, they will be very worried about you.

Task4

The design of technology is to make our life easier, but the paradox technology even make our life more difficult. The professor bring up the meaning by mentioned two examples, the first one is that, you need to use to remote to control TV and DVD, but if the DVD is hold on a TV, you need to use two kinds of different remote to control it to play or choose different programs. So people have to read the manual again and again for different function of different bottoms. And there's another example of mobil phone, the mobile phone become smaller and smaller these days, and can even be hold in pocket. It's a good point but the bottoms on the phone is too tiny to click correctly. So paradox technology is very inconvenient and make our life complex.

Task1

In my opinion, living on your own while studying abroad is much better. For supporting that, I hold 2 reasons. In the first place, living alone can provide me with enough privacy. For example, when I have my own flat or dorm, I don't have to worry whether my friends or roommates will look up my closet or my books without my premission, and I can feel free to focus on my own task without worrying about being peeked by others. Secondly, living independently can develop my ability of solving problem without other's help. For instance, I have to fix the drain pipe all by myself while having nearly no experience as a fixing worker. Without others' help, I learnt to do it by myself and got another useful skill.

Task4

The paradox of technology is about a kind of invention is invented to make life easier but it unexpected ly make an inverse effect. The professir uses 2 examples to make this concept clear. First of all, people invented remote to easilier control the TV or DVD player. In order to control this 2 electronic devices at the same time, they invented universal remote. However, people have to program it by themselves and it is easy for them to get confused when they can't tell which button means which function. Secondly, mobile phones are designed to get smaller and smaller to be more portable. Nevertheless, the buttons on the screen are also getting tinier, so people will easily press wrong numbers. All in all, the paradox of technology is making an inverse effect, out of people's expectations.

Task1

I think live on their own or with friends is better. My first reason is that you can learn how to manage your own life.Like my father used to study abroad in France on his own and he learned how to manage his own life . And also live on our own or with friends. You can learn how to deal with your relationship with your friends. Like my sister go to the United Kingdom and study and she try hard to deal with the relationship with her roommate and she learned a lot, this did help her to improve her social ability.

Task4

Paradox of technology means the technologies make life more difficult. The professor gives two examples. The first is the universal remote control, people use remote to control their DVD player. And but people used to need more two or more remote control to control the DVD player. So the universal remote control is invented. But the problem is you need to program it yourself and you need to remember all the buttons. The second example is the mobile phones.Nowadays, mobile phones are smaller and smaller. That could be good, but the buttons are getting smaller than before, this make people make a lot of mistakes.

Task 1

I prefer to stay with a family already living in the country, because host families can offer emotional support and guidance to students who are far from home and facing new challenges. They can provide a sense of belonging and help students adjust to the new environment. Host families can also offer practical advice on transportation, food, and safety.

Task 4

Paradox of technology means that technologies that are supposed to make life easier actually make life more difficult in a variety of ways. Life will become complicated rather than simplified. The lecture gives two examples to illustrate the paradox. The first one is about electronic devices such as DVD players and TV stereo. Each one of these different devices comes with its own remote control. Now, remote controls are handy and you do not need to get up from your seat to change the TV channel or to turn down the volume on your stereo. Everybody loves them. But, if your DVD player is hooked up to your TV, you may need to remote controls to watch a movie to get rid of the need for multiple remote, universal remote controls were invented. One universal remote control can be programmed to operate all your electronic devices. However, you have to program it yourself. This means you need to spend hours reading a manual, figuring out the directions. And after you have programmed it, you want to use it. But you have to remember which buttons do what. If you forget, you have to read the manual again. The universal remote control was supposed to make life easier. But instead, it made life more complicated.

Task 1

I think it's better for students who study abroad prefer to stay with the family already living in this country.I have two reasons.First of all,I think the family that living in the country, they have the life experiences and they are familiar with the lifestyle there. So it's uh they can help the students to meet friends easier. And secondly, the family are capable to help the students solve the life questions and they can support the students for the immediate help, such as they can teach the students the cooking skills and help the students adapt the lives abroad easier.

Task 4

The professor gives following example of the paradox of knowledge. The first example is about the electronic devices,it has a remote controlling function and you can control it without the distance restriction. And about the universal control,it can control all the electronic devices by pressing the bottom. But at first, you should remember the directions and correctly use them. And secondly, about the cell phone,it is small,it that can be packed in the pocket and the bottom is smaller as well.So you may press the wrong number of the bottom because the bottom is too small and it is inconvenient.

Task1

For me, living with local families is better because students are able to learn so many things in an easier way. It not only to get familiar with the local customs quickly, but also to adapt to the new life abroad in a short time. And also, there is no doubt that living with a large family may not be as independent or comfortable as living with peers, but these disadvantages are quite small compared to the benefits. Since students can learn a lot of life lessons with those elders who are living with them.

Task4

In the lecture, the professor explains the paradox of technology, which means make life easier, but actually it makes life more difficult. For example, electronic devices. People need a remote control like a DVD player. But sometimes they need more than one control to deal with. So universal remote control has been invented. The original intention of inventing it is to help people operate the devices easily. But then people find out that they need to spend a longer time reading the descriptions. Another example is cell phones. Nowadays cellphones are smaller and smaller so that they can be more portable. But meanwhile, people make mistakes like calling the wrong numbers because it's very difficult to manipulate the smaller buttons.

Task 1

I think the improvement of technology has brought us more benefits most of the time, but sometimes it can also bring us more complex things than before, making things more difficult to understand or get started than before. The first example is about DVDs, as you know if you want to watch TV, if you have DVDs or want to play channels, you can quickly find and identify them, so you can easily control them. But in reality, if you want to know how to use it, you must spend a lot of time understanding it and knowing how to operate it. The second one is about mobile phones, we can make them very small. But in reality, when we make our phones small and thin, it makes it more difficult for us to type, just like when you watch TV, a large TV will bring a better viewing experience.

Task 4

I think it would be better for you to choose your own life or for students, and I choose this for many reasons. First, if you live alone, you can find a new way. The new way can be that I can find new friends, and I can learn something that I have never noticed when living with others, such as waste sorting. You can even try to legally find a girlfriend. If you live with someone else, you cannot casually take other girls home. Secondly, you can start a new life because when you live alone, you are free to choose your own way of life. However, if you live with someone else, even if you help each other, there will inevitably be conflicts.

I think it is better for students to stay with a family already living in the country. If students choose to live with local family, the family can offer the students help and make their life more convenient. For example, they can support your daily transportation, give your some advice when you meet problems. Secondly, a family already living in the country can offer a better living enviornment. For example, they can provide you safer living places with better living condition. So I think it is better for students to live with a family that already living in a country.

Task 4

Paradox of technology means that the technology which suppose to simplify our life make our life more difficult and complicated. The professor use two example to explain this concept. The first is about the electronic devices like TVs, nowadays people can use remote control to change the TV channel without moving. But if there is a DVD player, it will be more difficult for people to watch the movie because they need to use additional remote control to control the other devices. And if people can’t understand how to use the remote control the need to review the Manu. And this make our life more complicated. And second is about the cellphones. Nowadays the cellphones are getting smaller and smaller and so the buttons. The buttons are too small compared with people’s fingers and it will be easy to press the wrong button.

task 1

For my prespective, I prefer stay with a family already living in the country. If students choose to live with local family, they can offer the students a chance to make their foreign life more convenient. For instance, they can support your daily transportation, give your some advice when you meet some forms of culture and custom problems. Secondly, a family already living in the country can offer a better living enviornment such as they can provide you safer living places with well-prepared furniture .So I think it is better for students to live with a family that already living in a country.

task 4

The reading introduce a concept called paradox of technology .this concept is about the technology which suppose to simplify our life make our life more difficult and complicated. The professor use two example to explain this concept. The first is about the electronic devices like TVs or DVD players, nowadays people can use remote control to change the TV channel or DVD without moving. But when we try to connect TVs and DVD player, we need two single remote controls or use one combined remote control. It is more complicated for people to use the combined remote control because people need to memorize the order of the remote control. And if people can’t understand how to use the remote control the need to review the Menu. And this make our life more complicated. And second is about the cellphones. Nowadays the cellphones are getting smaller and smaller and cancel buttons from phones. The screen are too small for people to touch correctly and it will be easier to press the wrong button.

Task1

I prefer to stay with my family, live in the country. And there are some reasons that first, I think you have to make our life more convenient because if you live with your family and they can provide some cost that you need and more convenient, you can ask your parents that um you need something and they will, they can give you do not need to maybe uh take it out and talk about, uh, and second, your parents will not be worried about you because you stayed with them. And so they are not also a call for you.

Task4

So this technology are also how art might be the para of knowledge are understandable. Professor example that plus first is TV, and the DVD player, they also make ourselves more four and we can use the control that we should not get off that channel. But if they use that in the time and we should use to remove control and we should know which button to watch things. And the second one is the smartphone. The phone become more and more smarter for the people. It will be more convenient to bring out, but people will be more easy to make some wrong with that bottle because they choose more for their fingers.

Task1 I believe it is better for students to live alone in the country. First I think living alone gives me more free space and quiet environment to study or do things I like. For example, a house or living places I choose depend my own preferences can bring me more free space and environment I like. Second, I can learn some basic living skills for the future. For example I can do some houseworks and the experience can also be used in the future.

Task4 The paradox of technology means the advanced technology make our life more difficult. The first example is about the remote control and other electric devices. As the number of our devices increases, the number of remote control also increases and we need to learn how to use these remote controls we need to read the menu. If we can’t understand the content in the menu we need to repeat until we know how to use it. Second example is about the smartphones. The smartphone is getting smaller and smaller and so is the buttons on it. The buttons are too small for people to press them and it will be easy for people to press the wrong button

Firstly, a family that is already live in the country they have more experience and more familiar with the country.
