[QUESTION] Supported Microphone Types on Raspberry Pi Zero #373

Hello,

First of all thank you for the great project and for the complete documentation on first install and required setup.

Sorry if this a question more than an issue itself, but I was not able to find a better place to ask. I am planning to use GassistPi with a Pi Zero, and (as far as I understand reading setup instructions) that’s should be possible “out of the box”.

Although it is unclear to me – beg my pardon for the silly question, I am a novice at this – what kind of microphone can be used with the Pi Zero.

In the documentation, I am reading only references to a “USB Microphone” and I am wondering if it is possible to use a “wired” microphone (a I2S MEMS Microphone like this one for example: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3421) in conjunction with GassistPi.

Which would be the audio configuration option in this case? CUSTOM VOICE HAT or USB-DAC ?

“Why would I want to use a wired mic” ?

Well, I know that the USB Mic is the “easy way” but since I’d like to use a Pi Zero to keep everything small and contained, it is only natural to me trying to use a small microphone that requires just a few cables and can sit “comfortably” anywhere near the board.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for the hint.

The video partially solves the problem addressing I2S MEMS Mics wiring, but the implementation there is different.

I'll head over to the chat for clarification, thank you. (I missed the link before opening the issue).
