Long term stay in Himachal & beyond #132

Manali

Manali is a place where you can get access to all the modern amenities without getting pulled into modern hustle.

The idea is to live in one of the villages near the town. There are several within an hour away. Most of them connected by a road.

One such village is Nasogi. And my friend, Sukrit, has been living & running 4play from there for about 7 years now.

Cost

Rent usually ranges around 5-10k for a decent 1-2 BHK. I am guessing 1 month duration of stay, minimum.

Sethan

Sethan is a small village an hour away. The road leading up to the trailhead for the popular Hampta pass trek goes through Sethan. It has also become a popular bouldering destination in the recent years.

Even though mobile connectivity here is bad, there are people here who work remotely thanks to the Wi-fi networks at the several stays & eateries here. But the internet here might not be as reliable or fast as in Manali.

You can do a lot of outdoor activities here. We used to go bouldering, walk on the road, hike in the forest, go for nightwalks to spot wildlife, watch the vulture feast on dead animals, take a dip in Allain nala (beware of water released from the dam though).

Keylong

A town in Lahaul that's well-connected & has good amenities. I haven't spent much time here so Sukrit should be able to help you find a place here & suggest activities. It doesn't rain here as much as Manali, but it will be colder.

~Jagatsukh~ It's the old capital of the region & all that, but I don't find it great to stay long-term.

Pulga & around

Pulga lies on the hippie & stoner circuit. Never been here, so can't make any personal recommendations. But it could be worth considering.

Leh

Leh is in a cold desert, so a great place to be during monsoons.

Sukrit again has a few friends who can help you find a place in Leh.
