NPL works by taking over Paradox Launcher. It overrides the file launcherpath located in %localappdata\%Paradox Interactive\ (windows) / ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/ (linux) / ~/Library/Preferences/Paradox Interactive/ (mac)
This file is used by all the games that use Paradox Launcher to locate the bootstrapper-v2(.exe) file.
The games then call the bootstrapper binary with the game path as a command line option.
The bootstrapper starts NPL with the same command line option.
NPL then loads the file launcher-settings.json located in the game path given (that specifies the game executable, name and other information needed to start the game).
Unlike Paradox Launcher, NPL doesn't change the image it uses as a background so it will always show a Cities Skylines background, but it should show the correct game name that called it.
I am working on a new version that should be able to allow NPL to start Paradox Launcher if the game is not enabled in NPL configuration but it will take some time as I'm currently busy at work and don't have time to work on NPL atm.
This seems to just be user confusion that could be solved by not using the Cities Skylines background image when launching other Paradox games. For me this is not an issue and expected behaviour, I never want to run the Paradox launcher regardless of which Paradox game I'm starting.
When I try to launch prison architect I get an error
@zarte13 Unfortunately I don't have Prison Architect to check why it's giving that error.
The error is from the game (as the launcher doesn't have an error message like that) and it might be due to a corrupt file in the game or maybe a change was made to the game to require some file created by Paradox Launcher.
Try checking your games integrity from steam, and if it still doesn't work, try using Paradox Launcher to start it once, then retry NPL after that.
It's definitely linked to the launcher since I can launch it perfectly without the NotParadox Launcher
The behaviour of the bootstrapper is far too aggressive: I installed Prison Architect, and the NotParadox Launcher believed I was launching Cities Skylines!
