I'm on Sohoma 14.1.1 (23B81), on a MacBook Pro M1.
make sure to click "grant access" and then "authorise", do not select the image folder. let me know if it works
No, this is what I did and it still doesn't work.
try clicking on the road arrow above the site list
Do you mean the refresh arrow? Clicking on that causes the browser to be shown but nothing in the app changes - no site list or anything, and it's still showing that I need to Grant Access.
Yup, same for me, not working.
Guys this is driving me mad, I don't know how to trigger / recreate this bug, apparently in all of my Macs and all of my friends Macs it works properly. if you have any significant detail about your system or any other idea, glad to hear you. @shy_neon is my telegram nick name
I'm not sure what information you need but this is my system...

I'm facing the same issue here. Mac Mini M2 Pro, Sonoma 14.2
i had this issue too. I deleted all the files and redownloaded the .dmg file and it opened up with access granted and works fine now.
Not working for me either - using an M1 Ultra Mac Studio and macOS Sonoma 14.2. The fix from the comment above did not work for me, unless I am deleting the wrong files...
Thought it was maybe an issue with signing and file permissions, similar to some other OSS apps, so then I tried:
sudo codesign --remove-signature /Applications/Favtool.app
sudo codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Favtool.app
but this didn't seem to work either. I even tried granting Full Disk Access, issue remains 😞
Having the same issue
Hey everyone,
I encountered the same issue recently, but I managed to find a solution that worked perfectly for me.
To start, I uninstalled "favtool" and then re-downloaded the dmg. Upon launching it again, I received the message "Apple can’t check app for malicious software". Simply clicking "OK".
Next, I navigated to my system preferences > Privacy & Security > At the bottom, under the Security section, you have the message "The use of 'Favtool' is blocked because the application comes from an unidentified developer." Here, I clicked on "Open Anyway", and this solves the issue.
I am having the same issue on Sonoma 14.3 (M3 MacBook Pro). Granting Full Disk Access in Privacy & Security doesn't help. "Grant Access" - > "Authorize" restarts Safari and nothing happens; "Grant Access" stays active.
~/Library/Safari

So basically this is what I think is going on: In order to list your favorite sites, Favtool reads a Database located in The Touch Icons folder, if this database is empty, Favtool assume it has no access to the file (I know this is dumb I will release an update with a fix). I think that updating the list (clicking on the round arrow above the list) and having a window of safari on the topsites:// page (the homepage) will allow the database to update and fix this issue.
if anyone can try, I will include this fix on the new update I'm working on, thanks
@wingsofovnia I tried your workaround and it still didn't work
@shy-neon any update on a fix for this issue?
Any update ??

update on this, make sure that the last window of safari you opened was not a private one.
Am also experiencing this issue... it's driving me crazy. Hope there is a fix soon 😃
I've just published a pre release which solves a lot of bug (including the one which was prevent some icon from changing). you can find it here https://github.com/shy-neon/favtool/releases/tag/v4.3 . I'm not sure this bug is solved, but this version will trow much specific error, and maybe we can fix this
remember to open safari with on the homepage when opening Favtool
I've installed Favtool and got as far as this screen...
I click on "Grant Access". I grant access to the folder and... nothing. Restarting the app results in the same. Whatever I do, I can't get the app to move on from this.
