At NumFOCUS, we don't take a single governance model, but let communities pick their own as long as it complies with the rules of IRS public charity status. Some examples I like to share with new projects include the following:

I don't have a link to share yet, but Mozilla's currently working on a research project to define a set of "open source archetypes" i.e different motivations and structures of open source projects, and how to operate them.
It outlines the spectrum of governance models in open source along with the implications of each model. Research will be public later this month, I think.
