what i did is compare rendering vsfilter with ffdshow's subtitle filter
Karaoke effects (also called ASS/SSA animations) didn't work on vsfilter but 
works with ffdshow

you do the same compare your vsfilter with ffdshow's subtitle renderer in 
MPC-HC (all internal codecs disabled)

see the karaoke subtitle on top with ffdshow sub renderer then with your 
vsfilter
you will see the difference
i couldn't extract the ASS subtitle but this 10mb small video with ass sub in 
it will let you know the problem

1. It would be better if you can provide the screen shots showing the 
difference, because I am not sure if I can reproduce that difference you saw.

2. Besides google, my ISP doesn't like mediafire.com either and block it. Damn 
it. I couldn't download the file from the link you give. Since the video is 
merely 10MB, maybe you can send it to me via email yuzhuohuang@qq.com. 
3. How to extract a ass track from a media file (if you decide to send the 
media to me, you can skip the following): One easy way is using mkvtoolnix and 
aegisub, goto http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/ and 
http://www.aegisub.org/ for corresponding latest version. Run mkv merge 
gui(mmg.exe), drag the media file into it, select the subtitle track and 
disable all attachments (if any), click start muxing, done. If everything goes 
alright, then a .mks file should be generated, which can be open in aegisub, 
while aegisub can save the .mks file as text format.
4. ASS ver 3/4+ is supported. 
I do this vsfilter based on vsfilter 2.39, hence it supports and only supports 
ass ver vsfilter 2.39 support, in a more efficient way. Any feature added later 
in VsfilterMod (http://code.google.com/p/vsfiltermod/) or vsfilter 2.40 is NOT 
supported.
