Any finitely generated abelian group is isomorphic to a direct sum of copies of Z and cyclic groups of the form Z/p^nZ for primes p
We want such an isomorphism as well as a proof that it is an isomorphism.

For generators whose order is not prime, what would be their analogue in the cyclic groups of the given form?

The group further decomposes, e.g. Z/6Z = Z/2Z + Z / 3Z
