@rajeev-0 the reason for the CI failure was a little hard to find out because at first I could not reproduce it locally, but meanwhile I can, and after some more trial and error, the Makefile_v1 call for cmpossl/ no more fails if that directory is not present.

So this PR is now really ready for your review.
