Tooltip for timestamp missing #5830

I am using Signal Desktop 5.36.0 from the Mint Repos. Not sure if that counts as 3rd party.

Bug Description

The tooltip showing a message’s timestamp seems to be gone.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Signal Desktop.
  2. Open a conversation.
  3. Hover the mouse pointer over the time info (e.g. “7min”) of a message

Actual Result:

Nothing happens.

Expected Result:

There used to pop up a tooltip showing the timestamp, something like 2022-03-26 18:12.

Platform Info

Signal Version: 5.360

Operating System: Linux Mint 19.3 64bit

Linked Device Version: 5.32.14

This might not be something we'll fix, given the new designs. But for now, you can get the full timestamp in the Message Details screen.

Sure, I haven’t forgotten those, but the tooltip was much more accessible. And the timestamp in the message details has no seconds. I am sure, the tooltip showed seconds, too. It is useful sometimes.

I liked it much more when there was a timestamp on each message (why wouldn’t there be, it seems the most logical solution, to me). This grouping messages sort of thing with a timestamp only on the last message in a group reminds me of Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp. I really hope you are not letting yourselves be inspired by those two.
