No Proxy setting? #6327

Closed RedSteel-1 closed 1 year ago

RedSteel-1 commented 1 year ago

Description

I need to route Signal to Tor running on localhost, However I didn't find any settings for adding a custom proxy, neither in "General" nor in "Privacy" section. Please add this setting. Would be really great to have it

Steps to Reproduce

Go to Settings

Actual Result:

No custom proxy setting found

Expected Result:

Finding custom proxy setting and adding a custom host:port to connect to, which Signal would use instead of using direct connection

Platform Info

Operating System: Windows

Hello! There is a PROXY_URL environment variable AFAIK, which you could use. Otherwise feel free to continue discussion on Community Forums.

RedSteel-1 commented 1 year ago

environment variable is neither portable nor convenient, there should be a setting for this in Settings, like in Telegram and many other programs

Why was the issue closed? Could you open it? It is not resolved and applies to the desktop client. The setting is present in the mobile client.

+1 This setting is so badly needed in the UI

That's a shame that desktop client has no proxy configuration menu let alone censorship circumvention or signal tls proxy support. I had to connect to my non tech-savvy relatives's computers remotely to setup scripts with these env variables.
