"This person isn't using Signal" #6771

Overall summary

I noticed today that I cannot contact one of my friends who I was able to message with Signal for many months. Since today the message "This person isn't using Signal" is displayed instead of an input box. image Most peculiar is that my friend still can message me on this conversation. I just cannot respond This problem is present both on desktop and the linked Android device (there without the error message)

Steps to reproduce

This only happens with one of my contacts. I do not have enough details to produce a scenario.

Expected result

unhindered capability to send a message to an established Signal contact.

Actual result

error message and no capability to send a message to the established Signal contact

problem was identified, the other side had an aged signal version on an 9 years old device. after swapping out for a newer one they could upgrade to a newer version of signal, and the problem disappeared.
