Concept: “This package is free for apps with up to X data points per month. For apps which need to collect more than X monthly data points, you can get an unlimited site package for $Y”

So, would this be a solution that a user signs up for and we collect/store the data? Or would the data still be stored on their machine?

I think it would just limit the system to collecting X data points per month unless it was unlocked

But still be data that lives on their servers.

I'm sure there are other paths to monetization but that was one that I thought was interesting.

The X data points always seemed like something that I've always hated in services 🤪 but I'm down to explore that.

I was thinking we could offer unlimited data points since the data is self hosted, then when the user wants to get info like locations via an IP because they need to hit our API we could give them ~100/day and then allow them to unlock all locations for all visitors if they upgrade.

We could also offer a handful of other pro features like:

Session Replay - There are a number of open source self-hosted solutions like https://openreplay.com/ and https://www.rrweb.io/

Events - We could also make things like button clicks, form submissions, and other events a premium feature.

This way users can still use the package for free and gain Analytics counts, views, and more. Then when they want more they can upgrade.

Totally open to discuss more 👍

Totally. Let's cut the "X data points" thing. Unlimited it is!
