The readme.md changes each week. Either run the code with a knitr cache or read/write rdata objects with past values, cooking-show style.
Knitr caches: if .gitignored, different people compiling the rmd would potentially result in different md results because one person has the cache and another doesn't.
Saving Rd objects with echo=FALSE and loading them with echo=FALSE and running the "code" to generate the data with eval=FALSE might work better?
