fix: Print leading 0's for reference number #104

Potentially fixes #100

This formats the reference numbers with leading 0's (between 000 to 10000)

PR in draft while Jennifer arranges with some of her students on testing the fix.

Something to look into. Jennifer said the number of leading 0's may depend on the final number e.g. 01 to 10 or 001 to 100
