Survey people gathering words or building a dictionary #2687

Ask what they want/need, what impediments there are to doing RWC and/or using The Combine.

I haven't used Combine in a few years. I'm trying to clear out other projects and get back to FLEx since I heard that Combine has been deemed "ready for use." However, I just saw issue #1750, which might now be resolved... I'm glad I didn't get caught by that one as we edit our large lexicon.

I see that #741 is still open. The ability to customize SD categories to match more closely with a community's world view is huge--please at least include a question about this one in any survey! See my recent note in #741.

But I'm wondering: If we import a LIFT file into Combine that already contains our customized SD categories (we defined a net major domain 1.8 for animals), will those labels be lost on re-import into FLEx? Did the fix to #1750 include this type of extra data?

Thanks, @KimB2017! When importing data into The Combine, if a sense has a semantic domain trait, both the id and name of the domain are imported. I cannot guarantee it, but that imported name should be preserved through modifications and export so long as you don't make modifications to the sense that involve a different semantic domain with the same id. For example, if you merge two senses with different domains that have the same domain id, one of those two domains will be lost.

As custom semantic domains are not intentionally supported at this time, I strongly recommend making a backup of your FLEx project before updating it with an export from The Combine.

Another caveat: all domains in The Combine's exported data are tagged as ddp4 domains (regardless of the name associated with the id).

Kevin and Verna note NUC limitations:

If sending out a poll, Verna suggests starting with the FLEx mailing list (as most people doing word collection are FLEx users).
