Hello.

I am new to ptx3pdf. After just installing the software, I go the following fatal error:

"Fatal error detected. Failed to execute script ptxpring." What can I do to run it?

Hi Emmanuel, Sorry to hear that it isn't working for you. It is strange indeed. Can you tell me which version of Windows you are using, and whether it is running in 64-bit mode or 32-bit mode. "System Information" should tell you all this. It would also be good to know which version of PTXprint you are testing. Hoping to get it working well for you. Mark (from NZ)

Wow - nice machine! No problems there :-) So there must be something else going on which is causing it to fail and we haven't yet come across (m)any complete failures like this before. Some more questions to try and work out why it might be failing:

  1. Do you have Paratext installed? If so, which version?
  2. Which version of PTXprint have you downloaded?
  3. Were there any surprises when installing it?
  4. What else have you tried to make it work?
  5. Is your interface language something other than English?

Dear Mark,

Please find feedback on your questions:

  1. Do you have Paratext installed? If so, which version? ANSWER: Yes, Paratext 7.5
  2. Which version of PTXprint have you downloaded? ANSWER: SetupPTXprint(0.8.6-beta)
  3. Were there any surprises when installing it? ANSWER: Installation went on well. After installation , I clicked on the PTXprint icon and received the dialog box with the message shared with you.
  4. What else have you tried to make it work? ANSWER: Nothing else done apart from clicking the close button of the dialog box.
  5. Is your interface language something other than English? ANSWER: I always use English interface.

Sincerely, Emmanuel Habumuremyi

My best guess is that it isn't handling Paratext 7.5, but I'm not sure why that might be. I'm not aware of any other PT7.5 users trying to use PTXprint. Is there any reason why you're not already using Paratext 8, or 9? Of course, it still could be something else completely unrelated to the version of Paratext, but right now I'm looking for the most likely causes...

emmahab commented 3 years ago

Thank you for the support you are providing. I do not use Paratext versions 8 and 9 very much because of their limitations, especially when you want to print the drafts of your works.

I got registration code in 2014 as a user outside recognized organizations in Bible production business. I do not have access to some copyrighted resources. Using version beyond 7.6, is really unhelpful for such users.

The background above has lead me to PXT2pdf. I have registration code to PText version 8 and 9. I wil try and see whether the error is resolved for the latter version.

Sincerely, Emmanuel Hanumuremyi

Might it be that the between 7.x and 8 there were lots of directory-layout changes? E.g. ParatextProjects/PROJECT.ssf -> Paratext8Projects/PROJECT/Settings.xml

Yes, that would make sense. Emmanuel - have you been able to test 8.0 (or better still, ver 9.0) of Paratext? I'd recommend 9.0 if you haven't already made the switch. 9.1 beta is about to be released soon - which is the 64-bit version.

emmahab commented 3 years ago

That's true. The issue may have been causes by running PTXprint on PT 7.5. With PT 8, it is running without problem.

Thank you for the guidance.

God bless you.
