Hi,
It's a combination of bugs :) One fluxbox bug, which I have just fixed, where it didn't handle a base_width/height properly.
Secondly, the abiword bug (not yet fixed) where it uses base_width, and base_height, which I don't believe it should be doing.
So, now fluxbox should be doing the right thing as far as the standards are concerned, but yes, it will report the abiword size as negative when you resize it smaller - this is because of abiword using the base size as it is.

Since AbiWord added support for GTK2, running it under Fluxbox generates a strange error - attempting to resize the window automatically increases its size by 25%, and refuses to shrink. It will only ever increase, and any experimentation will eventually make the program too big to fit on the monitor. Not sure whose bug this is, but it (AbiWord) runs fine under Blackbox, WindowMaker, etc, so my intuition leads me here.
