HLS transcoding causes error:2 #57

Your app has finally made it possible to use PMS with my LG TV without a lot of dropped frames. Thank you for all the great work!

I am using an 2012 model LG TV: 42LS575S. As the app isn't available (yet) for the 2012 models, I am using it via USB. I have noticed three different issues:

1) I am unable to change the audio track within PlayZ, or turn subtitles off (they can be turned on, but not off again). This problem can be helped by turning HLS transcoding on, disabling the controls in PlayZ, but allowing the presets in PMS to take over.

2) Unfortunately, when HLS transcoding is on, video's with 'reference frames: 8' have an 'error:2' when trying to play. I have tested this with numerous video's and so far the only common denominator with video's that have this error is that the amount of reference frames is 8. All other video's seem to be unaffected. Also, the amount of audio tracks or the presence or absence of subtitles do not seem make a difference.

3) When HLS transcoding is on, PMS does not correctly register that an episode has been watched. Its status does changed to watched in the PlayZ environments, but is shown as being partially watched in the PMS environment.

1 & 2 are TV issues not the application.

3 will be investigated.

Too bad to hear that issue 1 & 2 are my TV's fault, was hoping for a solution and LG is hopeless in that department :p

Issue 3 hasn't been researched by me as much as the others, but after some more tries I found that:

Yep I'm getting the same errors too LG 55LA6620-TD. Its only just started doing it. Nothing has changed with my PMS either and I have not changed anything in the app

I have the same issue on a LG 42ub820v when you say it's a TV issue do you think it's something that's likely to be fixed?

jacobwvandijk commented 9 years ago

I also noticed that after watching an episode on deck is not updated. Sounds like issue 3 as well? This episode is at pms marked as partially watched and in playz fully watched. It's not a real show stopper but is annoying a bit.

I'm getting the same Error 2 message on several videos through playZ. I know you say it's a TV issue, but the same videos play fine when I select the Plex media server from the tv input menu. Surely that means the TV is able top play the files but the playZ isn't able to?

Any help would be great.

Simonjhogan: How is the subtitle problem a TV issue when it works fine in another WebOS app (SmartShare) on the same TV?

simonjhogan commented 9 years ago

SmartShare is a DLNA client not a web application using the netcast api … that’s why!

So you're saying there's nothing you can do and I have to strip the subtitles out of all my videos just to use your application? If that's the case you should state it on the LG store description. I'm sure I'm not the only person who was unaware of this limitation when I purchased the app.

Thanks for the suggestion … Check the application forum for solutions to your issue … transcoding resolves the issue, which is the default behaviour for most PLEX clients ...

LG publishes information around which subtitles are supported … Integrated subtitle support is flakey via the LG netcast api/sdk …

So yes there isn’t a lot I can do ….

Hi Simon,

I know there had been a little talk in January about implementing a standard HTML5 player (at least for the webOS units) rather then the netcast api, would that eliminate the subtitle issue?
