When a packaged installation is installed (particularly on Unix and therefore on Mac OS/X) file and directory permissions are set to read only. This causes an immediate problem on startup, because the icepatientdb database is created in the install directory. This fails when the install directory is not writable.
It's also the case that the log file goes into interop-lab/demo-apps, which is also potentially not writable.
Log files and the icepatientdb database should move to the user home directory by default instead.
