I believe this number is used in the document title?

You are right. These version numbers are, for instance, used when generating the PDF: https://simpleinjector.readthedocs.io/_/downloads/en/latest/pdf/.

@dotnetjunkie You might also want to merge these changes into the v5 branch, als those still show up with 4 in the title.
