Gambia Presidential Crisis 2017 #902

There is currently a constitutional crisis going on in Gambia now. On 1 December 2016 Adama Barrow won the Gambian Presidential Elections, much to the surprise of the international community Yahya Jammeh Gambia's long standing dictator since the 1994 coup had originally accepted his defeat in the elections however on 9 December he later rejected the results of the election. This act has caused the other member states of ECOWAS to threaten military intervention in the Gambia if he didn't resign by 17 January 2017 and the African Union would stop recognising him as the president of Gambia at the same date. Tensions are rising, just today Jammeh has declared a 90 day state of emergency after Nigeria deployed a warship to put further pressure on him to step down. Creating any event chain for this crisis will have to wait until the crisis further develops enough or ends. If a military intervention does happen, it would be very interesting as it will be the first military intervention committed by an economic and political union.

ECOWAS has already commenced a military intervention into the Gambia through Senegalese troops that have crossed the border into the Gambia a few hours ago.

According to Adams Barrow, Yayha Jammeh has agreed to step down and fully cede the presidency to Barrow, I'm quite happy with this since no blood has been shed in this entire conflict.
