Can we developers build a country together? #387

We can't find land, an island to build a new country, but as a country, all we need is more and more citizens. So, what if we just build a country together? How is it going to be like?

I just went two days ago to a fascinating talk by Parag Khanna, who argues in his Connectography that today's hyperconnectivity will induce a phase change in which global dynamics transcends geopolitics, where the most connected powers will thrive. With the technological connectivity there can be a massive phase change in social organization as the digital frontier becomes a new space for civilization itself to exist.

In the future, the digital social world could be much greater than social networks, morphing into a zone with its own layer of politics and economics. Decentralized digital countries with their own digital cryptocurrencies can come into existence, with their own mission statements and values. These countries could wage cyber warfare with each other, they could have their own economies, digital trade, etc. And all this atop the physical layer.

So how could the developers of the world conceivably build a digital country? What would that entail? What would it mean for the world? What could it set in motion? What are the problems? What are the ideals it is built on? How would it work?

I don't know, if developers would built a country we would end up with many countries because everybody would fork the country they lived in. And the new country would solve problem xyz way better than the original country - of course....

@SvenLauterbach it would be interesting to pragmatically investigate the potential benefits of the creation of some sort of official digital nations which people could join. Once you look at that, while there could be chaos, there could also be value and order. I don't think discounting this idea as non-practical is the best approach. I do think something of the sort could conceivably create value for people as belonging to some decentralized organization with its benefits and perks.

It was just an idea. Anyone have any thoughts what this could look like practically?

I don't think so in the sense I described it in my first post. It is a social network, but lacks the other 95% elements which would render it a "digital country" But maybe you were under a different definition of country?
