Chef 12 deprecations #35

Replaced calls to methods that have been deprecated in Chef 12. These will become hard errors in Chef 13.

A similar fix was merged into master that just simplifies the whole logic of the platform matching. I'm going to further distill this down a bit since there's really no reason to call out individual platforms
