It's hard to use this name when people knows the name of the debugger: gdb (Gnu DeBugger)

Could you rename the project?

Thank you for the suggestion.

I was originally thinking that the name was a mnemonic for GO DeBuG. I didn't want to use gdb in the name in case I wanted to switch out the back end from gdb to something else (eg. lldb).

Maybe something like godebug would be better?

I'm not sure how hard it is to rename a github project. I will look into that.
