This problem seems limited to ksl's Mac, as I do not see it on my linux box.
This was a problem on ksl's Mac, which I have now solved by removing an old fix to a problem that existed with mpicc in homebrew. The homebrew issue is now resolved. Hopefully no one else will need to worry about this, the symption of which is that multithreading does now work, and instead one is getting n instances of thread 0.
In recent versions of py87g and py87h the out.pf file is not being produced in regression tests. The problem seems to occur only when multiprociessing is invoked
