Crash dump at start up #130

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I'm unsure if this is just a problem that only I have, or if others have it as
well. I've tried to start the app up every time, and it would crash, giving the
same code each time. I even tried it on 2 different SNEEKs, and the same code
was given.

8029b560 --> 8029b560 --> 800e0cf0 --> 800e1050 -->
80122a74 --> 80122eb4 --> 80123ffc --> 801259fc -->
800c738c

I'll also attach a picture I took of the dump, which sadly only shows the Stack
dump and Code dump completely. It is exactly the same every time.

I don't know how other's could reproduce this, so I'm going to give the
information I have.

My Wii system menu is 4.3U for each NAND and SNEEK. I have cIOS 222, 223,
249d2x56 version 6, and250d2x57 version 6 installed. I have Homebrew Channel
and Homebrew Filter on the system. And the latest revision of Savegame Manager
GX is rev 112, though I've have this same problem with rev 111. After it
reloads, it leaves a blank configuration file in the directory, and it doesn't
go any further.

I hope this helps out. I have no clue what to post to help out more. Let me
know what you would need me to do.

could you try to remove the "no_ios_reload" line in the meta.xml
thx to report result

Sadly, removing that line didn't work. I also looked the meta.xml file over,
and saw that I didn't remove the <!-- --> lines from the file. After removing
those and trying again, it still didn't work. It wouldn't load through cIOS 249
or ios 58, on either Homebrew Filter or Homebrew Channel. It did work once
before, around rev 110, but that was also before I installed the d2x cios to my
system. Whatever the problem is, it appears to be unique to my system. I'll try
to figure out what it is. Good thing I have S/UNEEK to help me easily test this
all. :D

I decided to test if it was my cios 249 d2x version that was causing the issue,
since for some reason Multi Mod Manager can't install ios using ios 58, but it
still refused to work. I also tried to get it to run on a UNEEK emulated NAND,
freshly made with very little mods, and no matter what I did, it would spit out
the exact same error. The freshly made UNEEK NAND has the latest ios 58 version
out there. I even tried it after installing a cios 249 with a base of 58, but
it still gave the same error.

For some more detail, it would give this error right after is says 'Loading
theme', then for a split second show the GUI, then give the error.

ok
had you tryed to load on real nand (no S/Uneek)?

I've been trying it on everything I had. It doesn't want to work on the real
NAND or the emulated one. I don't understand why it's not working, but no
matter what I do, it would give out the exact same error messages, character
for character.

What I find unusual is it loaded once, back when I was on rev 110 or maybe a
few before, and when I tried to extract a save, it crashed and then it never
could load the app again. That could mean the error is related to my save
files, but if that was the case it shouldn't have any errors when loading a
freshly made UNEEK NAND. I tried testing something dealing with save data,
since all the NANDS had in common was Homebrew Filter Save data, but it still
gave errors after I deleted that from the real NAND.

After some discussing with you in IRC, I worked on my idea, and I did discover
the cause. It was a folder on my SD card. Specifically, the one in the root
directory called savegames. It's what was causing the problems. When it first
crashed, I thought it didn't do anything, but after copying files and folders
one at a time to a formatted SD card, which was working out, I noticed the
folder. After copying it to my SD card and trying again, I got the error.
Removing it made the program work.

So I guess this matter is now closed, and if someone else gets this error
themselves, they can now know what is the cause of it.

The folder had something in it, but I didn't look too much into it. I deleted
the folder. Best I can tell, the files in that folder were either an incomplete
or even corrupted backup of the save data. The program couldn't handle it, and
crashed. I don't know if the program has any error checking or if it is
programmed to detect incomplete/corrupted backups and either ignore them or
delete them, but either way, removing that folder solved the problem.
