Trello / Pre Submission #1

There's no mention of Trello in the documents. Are we still using it?

I ask mainly because I have some extra sections in my repo about pre-submission. These may be defunct in the repo as it implies you're already submitting, but they should go somewhere.

I am still using it, but it's on the backburner.

The main idea is if someone new is joining up, they probably have an idea they want to write about, so bothering them with Trello from the start forces them to pay too much attention on too many fronts. By limiting the scope to the Github repo (and the common docs), they can get past the initiation, submit their first draft, and once they've submitted it, you can tell them something like "Excellent. I've also added your topic to our Trello board where we keep track of in progress articles - I've invited you. Look around for future topics while you wait for this one to be reviewed" or something similar.

That's how I currently do it and it seems to work well - though I am in all honest looking for ways to abandon Trello completely. At 100+ authors, it takes far too long to load and suffers from tremendous UI lag.

What are your thoughts on Trello?

I am in general agreement, I guess there are two features we need that might be hard to replace.

Topic suggestions - Though this could just be a shell submission to GitHub and in fact being able to see progress of an article is quite attractive. Showing which topics are open for writers is another aspect of this.

Due dates / Editorial Calendar - Probably the hardest one to replace, though I'm keen to see how we could extend GitHub to help.

I actually quite like Trello and use it extensively myself, but I am also pro reducing having to many sources of knowledge for writers.

I might keep this issue open as a task for us all to think about.

Hmm, there's a pain, gitHub wont let you assign more than one person to an issue.

Also, must keep remembering to do this… @Swader !

You can sub to a topic by watching it, that'll let you keep getting updates. Yeah, it's not fully replaceable yet, but I do have an alternative for the topic suggestions mechanism, more info soon. For now, trello it is.
