My biggest question here is: can we? We got special permission from github as it is to have such a large repository.

Given that many packs tend to have binary executables, not to mention the sheer number of files we're talking about, I would think that may not be a great idea... as much as I would like it, and I'm pretty sure others might as well.
It might be possible to mirror the repo, with extracted directories on S3, or Azure Blob Storage... for direct access.. but there would definitely be a cost to that.
Just curious, how big is the directory as it stands? I'd guess it'd be 7-8x the size extracted out.
The raw repo (sans git stuff) is right at the 4GB mark.
