So, what's this about? In October of 1997, it was Mistigris' third anniversary. We hosted a big blowout by releasing an enormous artpack -- one so big, we split it into three parts: disk 1, textmode; disk 2, hirez; disk 3, music. They all got circulated on BBSes all over and someone uploaded most of them to the artpacks archive, but they hung up (or something) three quarters into uploading the music disk. Skip forward 18 years, and all the BBSes are of course gone; the only copy of MIST3YRC remaining is the incomplete/corrupt one on the FTP site, still containing most of the data for the umpteen songs but only allowing four or five of them to be successfully extracted.
During the reunion festivities last fall, we did some data recovery surgery and restored the remainder of the songs, of which there are a-plenty, and they once again became listenable-to for the first time since the last BBS-hosted copy went down umpteen years ago.
We release it now to kick off our series of archival re-releases of tracked computer music we're sitting on that no one else has -- much of which may never have left the 604 area code to begin with. My crazy pledge is to release one music collection every day for at least ten days -- maybe more!
