Important parallels to consider:
The Sermon on the mount comes before the sacrifice in the Exodus narrative: Exo 20-23. In Exodus, it is Moses that hears this from Jehovah on the mountain and then brings it down to the people. In Matthew 5-7, Jesus went up into a mountain to preach the Sermon on Mount.
Moses clearly identifies the blood of the sacrifice as the blood of the covenant:
[Exo 24:8 NKJV] 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled [it] on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words."
Christ identifies the blood of the sacrifice He is about to make as the blood of the New Covenant:
[Mat 26:28 NKJV] 28 "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Christ became the passover Lamb Himself.
In Exodus, Moses sprinkles the blood upon the people as he proclaims the covenant.
[Exo 24:6-8 NKJV] 6 And Moses took half the blood and put [it] in basins, and half the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people. And they said, "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient." 8 And Moses took the blood, sprinkled [it] on the people, and said, "This is the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you according to all these words."
In the Gospels, we get a very different application of the blood on the people:
[Mat 27:24-25 KJV] 24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but [that] rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed [his] hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye [to it]. 25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood [be] on us, and on our children.
In one case, the people acknowledge and agree to the covenant. In the other, they are blind and cannot see what they are doing. In fact, Christ prayed for those that were crucifying Him because He knew they didn't really know what they were doing.
The alter of the New Covenant doesn't come into the picture until we read about the heavenly equivalent
After the resurrection, Christ was seen by many for 40 days. And finally, at the Mount of Olives, he ascended up into heaven and disappeared into the clouds.
After the blood of the covenant was shed in Exodus 24, Moses and the seventy elders go up into the mountain and they see the God of Israel. Moses spends 40 days in the mountain alone with God. And the mountain was covered with clouds.
The word for "teaching" is found throughout the Gospels, but, interestingly enough "proclaiming" is introduced in Acts. It is the word that Paul uses when he says that communion "proclaims" the death of the Lord.
Is it possible that Moses was bringing down the tablets on Penticost, 50 days after the blood of the covenant was shed?
Christ ascended to His father right after he was seen in the garden.
[Jhn 20:17 NKJV] 17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and [to] My God and your God.' "
This is significant in His work as High Priest of the New Covenant!
One of the great themes throughout the Gospels is the Preaching of the Kingdom. In this first major arc, we see these key events:
