This led to co working and I being pretty confused as he was chatting about something which didn't exist in the version of the plugin I was reading the docs for. Additionally some clear notices at the top of each repo's readmes explaining which version is which and linking to the other might help some people.
On https://plugins.craftcms.com/imgix the "Repository" link links to https://github.com/sjelfull/craft3-imgix but the "Documentation" link links to https://github.com/sjelfull/imgix (The Craft 2 version)
