No, I do not find novelty in your proposed ideas. Here is my idea:

Find the true impacts of gasoline-powered vehicles in the US and provide what-if analysis for users. You will have to collect data on the number of cars, trucks in various categories on the road and likely their emission level. The carbon emission and its impact on global warming. Now data visualization along with a what-if analysis will allow users to move the slider for ex: if you take diesel-powered vehicles out of the road how much less emission will be.. there can be many different ways to slice and dice and show the impact. if done right can be a very impactful project. I do not recall seeing anything like this today.

Professor, We have decided to make a drowsiness prediction system for cars. We wanted to implement something using computer vision and found this idea to have good impact value. In the future, if cars come with such a system installed it will definitely help save a lot of lives. With autonomous driving increasing day by day, such a system can detect that the driver has slept, and then, the self-driving system can take over to stop the car.

did you request access to the data? did they approve? if yes, go for it.

Professor, I have filled out the form for the same, waiting for their approval

whats your backup plan if they dont approve it

Professor, we have looked at some other available datasets that provide similar information about facial features for drowsiness detection. We are considering starting with this dataset (we have looked at a few others in case we need more data going forward) if we don't hear anything from them by tomorrow EOD as all of us are new to computer vision and it will take some time for us to understand the data provided and figure out how to approach this problem.
