Project Update #7: Week of 2/26 #24

This week Thyra continued working on Psalm 24, and Sam settled on the story of Sarai. But because there was so little Midrashic commentary on Judges 11, Ben decided to switch to the Binding of Isaac story in Genesis 22. While the quantity of the commentary we choose matters, we came to the conclusion that the quality and relevance of the commentary matters even more. With that in mind, Ben began searching for a primary Midrash. He was able to tentatively rule out certain Midrashim, despite their extensive entries on the Binding of Isaac, because their language seemed redundant and confusing. We also realized that we will need to make our Relax NG schema quite long and flexible, so that it will fit all of our different Midrashim and areas of focus.

For next week we're going to continue developing our schema, marking up our texts with XML, and making the beginnings of our website with HTML and CSS.

Could you clarify what paren = element paren {content} is used for in your schema?

In the Psalm 24 markup, there is still the pseudo-markup of quotation marks, while you also have quote tags, so they can be deleted.

There doesn't seem to be a markup replacing the square brackets on the Psalm 24 xml, but I recognize that it's a WIP. Will that all be replaced with the markup suggested in the schema, because it seems applicable just not implemented yet?

Nice to see that your project is coming along nicely. I viewed your website, and I must say, you've laid a rather solid foundation for it.. One criticism I have is your versus page though. It's a nice table of contents to link to your markup, but one odd thing I noticed right away is that your hover selection highlights the header of your table as well. This could just be me, but that is really awkward to see when interacting with the page. This is but a minor thing and just my opinion, if you disagree then you may disregard that statement. Otherwise, solid work so far.
