App Engine Connected Android Project error on Creation #212

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Following this tutorial 
https://developers.google.com/eclipse/docs/endpoints-androidconnected-gae.  
Click File, New, Other, Google, App Engine Connected Android Project.

2. Enter a Project Name and Package Name. Optionally, enter values for API Key 
and Project Number

3. Click Finish

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected to have a new project created, with Android client code. Instead there 
is an error:

"Creation of element failed.

com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.internal.project.AndroidNature.setupProjectNatures..
."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Using Mac OSX 10.8.3 and Eclipse ADT with Android SDK, Android 4.2.2 (API 17). 
No updates are available (all are current).

Please provide any additional information below.

When the error occurs a folder for the project is created that contains one 
file named ".project"
