Hey mate,
Seems perfect for your use case. I was trying to use it as a simple wedding photography gallery setup, it's easier to manage large collections of photos via Google Drive, especially since they end up handling the speed, responsiveness, thumbnail sizes, slideshows, etc.
I then wanted to push it further, and try and replace paid professional systems like ShootProof. The main reason I pay for ShootProof is for clients to be able to
If these features were built into a tool like this it would be an interesting competitor. ShootProof have a bunch of features, but most of them could be replaced with WordPress + this tool + a CRM.
Downsides for switching for me would be Google Storage - I'd need to have a plan to store at least 100GB of photos at any one time.
Those are my initial thoughts and what my use case was. Hope it helps.
Thanks for the input and referencing ShootProof!
Hi, I've been working my way through the backlog of issues we have here and had an idea.
This plugin was originally made for a use case like the one I have - Publishing photos from an event or a series of events.
However, we've seen the plugin being used by professional photographers as well and I think their demands and expectations are different - see #81 #91 #83. Maybe we could create a version of the plugin targeted at these use-cases. I don't have a clear idea of what that means, so some "market research" would definitely be needed... But I think what was the most requested were front-end interactive features - enabling the gallery to be used as a kind of marketplace for photos.
At the same time, we've been talking about adding a "premium" version of the plugin where the main difference was supposed to be that you wouldn't have to configure the Google app and wouldn't have to worry about rate limiting and such. This would of course need to be paid for (as we would manage the Google app and pay for higher rate limits), but I think professionals would pay for higher availability and reliability.
This is just an idea, we'll see what comes out of it - I would like to open the discussion in this issue. @kalich5 @mauricekindermann what do you think?
