One of the recommendations in the report from the Houston Technology and Innovation Task Force was to "[t]ell the story of Houston startups and entrepreneurs to shine a brighter spotlight on Houston's startup and tech community and capabilities" (page 21, accessed in PDF May 14, 2018). The Task Force also recommended that we "[b]uild upon Houston's strength of diversity to ensure that practices, procedures, and outcomes related to building an innovation economy are inclusive" (page 27, accessed in PDF May 14, 2018). The Houston Exponential page on the website of the Greater Houston Partnership provides a link to the PDF version of the report. A wiki is a tool that can help us achieve both recommendations, and with Semantic MediaWiki, we can import and display structured data to enhance the content of the wiki. The wiki farm Referata will permit us to create a prototype at no cost. The most relevant MediaWiki extension is Page Forms, and Working with MediaWiki (2nd ed.) by Yaron Koren is the most relevant book. This project will advance the objective of diversity and inclusion in the upcoming Innovation District. A wiki will provide a forum for the stories of minority entrepreneurs, and examination of the obstacles faced by them will be instructive for current startups as well as future generations. As a precedent, the story of a minority entrepreneur was the inspiration for the Ice House Entrepreneurship Programs of the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative.
