I am interested in supplementing existing EV charging maps with some verification that certain sites are either chronically dead, and unlikely to be repaired; or are simply incorrectly mapped due to erroneous GPS info. The networks are maturing -- but the growing pain is the absence of a 'garbage collector' to keep us from wild goose chases.
@Jugglenaut can you provide the most "current" versions of EV maps that you use? it would be cool to pull that data and crowdsource info about them.
Jeff: The following data is sourced from the Alternate Fuels Data Center (Boulder, CO), which is part of the National Renewable Energy Lab. The common problems are a) persistently abandoned/neglected broken chargers and b) garbage data that isn't remotely identifying a charging station. I took a 32 mile radius from Discovery Green in downtown Houston to get the following CSV data. Data matches their database as of 5/24/2017. They offer some feedback mechanism..., but I fear it is too 'tucked away' into their website to truly encourage community involvement culling the 'dead end' chargers. I offer my first-hand information as 'GOOD' or 'BAD' (as of my visits in 2017). Anyway, I'm looking at the problem as one of RELIABILITY... which seems to have very little ownership or verification out there. Houston-gone.txt Best Regards, Robert
I have data from NCTCOG.gov that indicates that 2,500 EVs are garaged in Harris county and adjoining urban areas. I'm supposing by EOY 2018, that number will be 5,000. If we routinely weed-out of the 'iffy' chargers, then we benefit 5,000 vehicles garaged to Houston. If each vehicle (averages) 2 visits to public charging -- then we have 10K visits monthly. My very very rough data indicates there are between 3-9% non-functioning or non-existent charging stations. If we can discover which ones are erroneously in maps/DBs, then, potentially we avoid 500 monthly 'surprises', and potentially bring that down to about 100 'surprises'. Additional resources are in Plugshare.com , among others.
Build an app to crowdsource the location and specs of EV charging stations around the City of Houston.
