As an aside, how do you determine how long to keep a link in the "in case you missed it" section? Not that I particularly mind, but e.g. "The Joy of Haxe" has been there for 20 issues.

I've not thought about how long to keep anything in those sections, it's usually decent articles/headline links that hang around, but 20 weeks is a bit much 😬. A new section or page probably should be setup for long term articles.
