This is Mikey Wilson from the University of Washington's ATX team. We know that currently the landmarks from the SkipTo extension are show in an order optimized for keyboard users, where we can see in the example below that the order is Main, Search, and then Complementary: session events. We are submitting a feature request for an option to show the landmarks in the order that they appear in the DOM, as it is more intuitive for screen reader users and helps to get an accurate representation of the layout of the page.
Below is an example of how the SkipTo currently shows the landmarks on a page that we tested on, even though they appear as Comlementary: session events, then search, and then Main in the DOM.
