stroke order on 好 is incorrect #4

In your animation on adding handwriting shortcuts, you should the horizontal stroke on the 女 part of 好 comes last. Afaik, even in a shortcut, it should not be accepted usage to first write the horizontal stroke. But correct me if I'm wrong.

PS Will the shortcut also allow writing a squiggle for the 'fire'/'water' dots? I noticed Hanping Chinese which uses a handwriting recognition library is very good at recognizing such and other 'cursive' script.

Thanks for your note! I think the two-stroke version of the 女 radical is commonly used, though, with the horizontal stroke first. That radical has two forms: one when it's alone or stacked vertically (好 ) and when it's stacked horizontally (好 ), and the latter form is the one that can be abbreviated. I actually just pushed a commit that distinguishes between these two forms and allows the shortcut only for the latter (https://github.com/skishore/inkstone/commit/fd79d343650ed6a6dc1db61b021515f03966c0c3) - it'll be included in the next release.

You bring up a good point with the fire/water/ice dot radicals. Hanping Chinese uses a much more sophisticated handwriting recognition system that aims to recognize actual handwriting rather than to teach proper stroke order, so I don't think this app will ever be quite as flexible as it. However, for the radicals you mentioned, yes, I think a shortcut would be a good idea. I'll try to have something like that in the next release as well - it'll be a small "quality of life" release. Thanks!

Hi

I've asked around a bit, and I believe it is not acceptable in any case to write it that way. At least in the scope of this project, it should not be allowed.

It would be a good idea to study cursive Chinese writing and see how the strokes connect. You'll never see that shortcut in 女, but you will see the dots in fire and water written in one stroke.

my 2 cents..

Thanks for your note. I looked into the cursive script, as you suggested, and indeed, examples of the 女 shortcut is rarer than examples for other shortcuts. I did find a few, though, and some discussion of this issue on the Skritter forums, where they came to the same conclusion (it's questionable, definitely not okay when 女 is in its normal form, but might be okay if it's on the side as in 好). I think I'll keep it for now, given that it's always an option to ignore the shortcut, but I definitely want to get closer to cursive usage in the future.

Your suggestion for the fire and water dots shortcut is a good one that I'll roll out soon.
