I still think covering extinction is a reasonable topic to cover since we don't talk about it much. That said, it's towards the end of the semester, and it's probably best to go simple rather than my attempt this year. The Gill et al. paper is interested for the use of fungal spores and for the causal relationships, but there isn't too much beyond that. If focus is on causal relationships and ecosystem effects of extinction, maybe still a good paper. If you're going a simpler route, probably pick a different paper that relates more directly to current times
