LGTM. There are some test failures. I don't think they are related to this change. Please feel free to commit once @kgiusti has given his stamp of approval.

@jiridanek please go ahead and commit this change. I see that you already created an issue for the tsan failure. Once you commit this to main, we will go ahead and look at the lws tsan failures. I spoke with @kgiusti about this and he agrees.
