I'm pretty sure that the project should work out of the box if you open the project file with Sailfish OS IDE. I don't have time to test this now, but I hope I'll be able to have a look at this app and some other apps during February. It's very likely that framebuffer stuff won't never work on Jolla C/Jolla Tablet and the implementation has to be changed so that the app uses Wayland api instead of the framebuffer device.
Thanks for planning to have a look! It builds and installs alright, but simply does not send anything as described in the old portion of the bug report. It's a pity framebuffer won't work on the "HD" devices, as it could have been a possible workaround for the really slow screen shots on those, as well. :)
EDIT: Sorry, I realized streaming works with the precompiled binary. So sorry. I've updated the title accordingly.
So… it'd be pretty nice if you could explain to me how to set up SailfishOS IDE to build from source.
Sorry, again, for the panic-inducing title I used previously!
Old Bug report for posterity: On Jolla Phone JP01, there's no visible feedback in Firefox/VLC when opening the adress provided in the app. It's reporting "Client connected" and a frame rate of 23 fps/43ms frame grab time. After a while, the system (ui + ssh) freezes until battery is removed. I have not tried it on older SFOS versions.
There's no terminal output indicating something went wrong.
I'd really appreciate if you could have a look at this – apart from a really bad shell script I did on talk.maemo.org to get lipstick-recorder to do anything, SailCast is our only option to record the screen. :)
Further testing: When starting on Jolla C (I know it's not supported, but I had to try), also on 2.0.5.6, Firefox/VLC shows a black image of correct dimensions, so the streaming part seems to work there. It even gets rotated with display orientation (as long as you hold the phone, putting it on a table in landscape reverts to portrait image dimensions). It only gets 4 fps, but that's to be expected, since even taking screen shots with high resolutions on SailfishOS takes a while.
